Nine Killed In Ogun Road Crash Involving Bus, Truck

Nine passengers have been killed in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a truck along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, saying the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino Truck operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.

According to the FRSC spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsin, preliminary investigations indicated that speed violation was the probable cause of the fatal crash.

Odunsin said all nine occupants of the bus, comprising three males and six females, died in the accident.

“The crash involved two vehicles, namely a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck commercial vehicle, with the registration number AAB162XD, belonging to Bill Gas Solution Ltd,” the statement said.

He added that the remains of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode.

The two vehicles involved were subsequently towed to the Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division for further investigation.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed concern over the incident and urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise greater caution while driving, especially during rainfall.

He advised motorists to obey prescribed speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid behaviours that could endanger other road users.

Ogunjobi also warned that speeding on wet roads increases the risk of crashes because reduced tyre grip and poor visibility can make it difficult for motorists to maintain control or stop safely.

The FRSC commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists and other road users to make safety a priority at all times.
