Ododo Pledges Post-Rainy Season Construction Of Odenyi–Oguma Road
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and the welfare of residents in Bassa Local Government Area, announcing that construction of the Odenyi–Oguma Road will commence immediately after the rainy season.
The governor also assured residents that his administration would continue to engage the Federal Government to ensure the completion of the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina Road, a federal highway currently under construction.
Ododo gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of Bassa stakeholders and members of the Bassa Ododo Women 2027 Group at the Government House in Lokoja.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, commended the governor for his achievements in infrastructure development, regular payment of salaries, improved security, and the implementation of social welfare programmes.
He, however, appealed for urgent government intervention in the rehabilitation of the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina and Odenyi–Oguma roads, renovation of healthcare facilities and public schools, as well as the provision of potable water across the three districts of Bassa LGA.
Responding, Governor Ododo said work on the Odenyi–Oguma Road would begin as soon as the rainy season ends, describing the project as a priority for his administration.
On the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina Road, he revealed that the Commissioner for Works, acting on his directive, had held two meetings with the Minister of Works to advocate for the completion of the federal road project being executed by TEC Engineering.
The governor reiterated that his administration would sustain its engagement with the Federal Ministry of Works until the road project is completed.
Addressing concerns about healthcare infrastructure, Ododo directed the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry to collaborate with the Commissioner for Health to identify health facilities requiring immediate intervention.
He also instructed stakeholders to assess the cost of resettling displaced residents of the Ibiroko community in Mozum District and submit a report to the government for appropriate action.
In addition, the governor approved additional appointments for women following requests by the Bassa Ododo Women 2027 Group, represented by Grace Tukura. He directed stakeholders to submit nominees from the four wards that are yet to be represented in his administration, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance.
