Oyebanji Announces Revival Of 5km Road Projects Across Ekiti LGAs
ADO-EKITI — Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to revive the construction of five kilometres of roads in each of the 16 local government areas of the state to improve rural connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
The governor disclosed this on Thursday during a town hall meeting with stakeholders from the Ekiti South Senatorial District in Igbara-Odo, Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area, as part of consultations for the preparation of the 2027 budget.
Oyebanji said the initiative would ensure that every local government area benefits from at least five kilometres of road construction, particularly to improve access to rural communities, strengthen connectivity and support local economic development.
He also pledged to intensify efforts to accelerate the disbursement of financial support to traders and artisans, while maintaining human capital development as a key priority of his administration.
According to him, the government would continue to focus on improving electricity supply, road infrastructure and educational facilities across the state in response to concerns raised by stakeholders during the meeting.
Describing the people of Ekiti as his “benevolent employers,” the governor assured residents that their views would remain central to government policies and programmes.
“I have absolute respect for Ekiti people and will never disrespect them. You put us in this position; you are our employers. Your voices must be heard and respected,” he said.
The governor further identified Ekiti East Local Government Area as a strategic gateway to the northern part of the state, promising to attract private-sector investments to accelerate development in the area.
Stakeholders from Ayekire, Ekiti Southwest and Ekiti East local government areas called for the revival of the five-kilometre-per-local-government road initiative, alongside urgent interventions in erosion control, electricity, healthcare and education.
Representatives from Ikere, Ise/Orun and Emure local government areas also urged the state government to increase investment in roads, power, healthcare and education. They called for stronger security measures in communities located along the state’s boundaries.
The stakeholders further appealed to the government to sustain forest-combing operations to tackle criminal activities and improve security in vulnerable areas.

Speaking on inclusion in public service, a representative of persons living with disabilities, Damola Ogunleye, commended the governor for allocating five per cent of positions to persons with disabilities during the recent recruitment exercise into the civil and teaching services.
Ogunleye said the policy had contributed to improving the socioeconomic well-being of persons living with disabilities and reflected the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, disclosed that Ekiti State currently has 958 public primary schools and 200 secondary schools.
She said the state government was implementing free education and partnering with private institutions to reduce school dropout rates and improve learning outcomes.
