Oyo Impounds Vehicles, Demolishes Illegal Structures On Circular Road

The Oyo State Government has impounded several vehicles and demolished illegal structures along the 32.2-kilometre Phase 1 stretch of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road over alleged unauthorised use of the newly constructed highway.

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the state’s Specialised Task Force established to protect the infrastructure and prevent abuse of the yet-to-be-commissioned dual carriageway.

The task force comprises officials from key state ministries, including Public Works and Transport; Lands, Housing and Urban Development; Justice; Energy, as well as representatives from the Office of the Governor, Surveyor-General’s Office, Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Amotekun Corps, the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority and other relevant agencies.

In a statement signed by the Media Relations Officer, Abiodun Adedioye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Adebiyi, confirmed that several offenders were arrested during the operation.

Among those arrested was the driver of an overloaded commercial bus whose vehicle broke down and was stranded on the newly paved road, alongside other motorists accused of using the road without authorisation.

Adebiyi said all seized vehicles and items recovered during the operation had been taken to the OYRTMA headquarters, adding that owners and drivers would appear before a mobile court for prosecution by OYRLEA.

He said the enforcement team also removed shanties, kiosks and other illegal structures erected along the road setback, as well as obstructions such as planks, sand and pebbles placed on drainage channels to create unauthorised access points for vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles.

The government explained that the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Joint Task Force was established in October 2025 to safeguard the state’s investment in the high-tech infrastructure project, following increasing cases of vandalism and misuse.

The task force’s responsibilities include removing illegal structures along the corridor, preventing unauthorised excavation, restricting illegal parking and movement on the road, curbing open grazing, and protecting installed infrastructure and equipment from vandalism.

The Oyo State Government warned residents and motorists against further violations, stressing that strict enforcement would continue to preserve the integrity and functionality of the Circular Road ahead of its official commissioning.
