Residents Seek Ogun Govt’s Intervention Over Deplorable Aseese Road

Residents of Cele Phase 2 community in Aseese, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, have appealed to the state and local governments to urgently rehabilitate their road, which they said has become almost impassable, particularly during the rainy season.

The residents, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, lamented that the poor condition of the road had made movement difficult, contributed to flooding and increased the risk of accidents for motorists, commercial motorcycle operators and other commuters.

According to them, the road becomes muddy, slippery and difficult to navigate whenever it rains, resulting in frequent vehicle breakdowns, motorcycle accidents and disruptions to business activities.

A resident, Wale Elegbede, said motorists often avoided the road during rainfall because of its poor condition.
“People are afraid of driving their cars here whenever rain starts. Everything about the road becomes an issue. I moved to Aseese five years ago, and since then, it has been a lot,” Elegbede said.

She appealed to the authorities to provide good roads for residents, stressing that communities in Ogun State deserved better infrastructure.

Similarly, a trader in the area, Kemi Adebisi, said the deteriorating road had negatively affected commercial activities, especially during the rainy season.

She noted that commercial motorcyclists frequently fell on the slippery portions of the road, while residents and customers were discouraged from using the route when it became muddy.

Another resident, Tosin Akinwale, said the road had caused him significant financial losses due to repeated vehicle repairs.

According to him, he had spent considerable amounts fixing his vehicle after using the road during the rainy season.

“This road has cost me a lot during the rainy season. Only mechanics benefit from this, but we, the commuters, suffer dearly because we will keep paying for repairs,” he said.

Akinwale added that the road became particularly difficult to navigate after rainfall because of the muddy and slippery sections.

Another resident, Adeoye Ogunwale, described the road as “very, very bad,” saying its condition had also affected social activities in the community.

He said residents sometimes experienced flooding after heavy rainfall, with the effects lingering for several days.

“This road causes flooding sometimes when the rain is heavy. Four to five days after the rainfall, you will still see the effect because the road will still be very messy,” Ogunwale said.

The residents called on the Obafemi Owode Local Government and the Ogun State Government to inspect the road and commence rehabilitation work.

They said rehabilitating the road would improve accessibility, reduce accidents and vehicle damage, support commercial activities and mitigate the impact of flooding during the rainy season.

The appeal comes amid concerns over deteriorating access roads in some developing communities across Ogun State, where rapid residential expansion has increased pressure on existing infrastructure.

For residents of Cele Phase 2, however, the immediate demand is for a motorable road that can remain accessible throughout the rainy season.
