Sanwo-Olu Launches Free Three-Month Transport Scheme For 2,000 Lagos Police Officers

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a new welfare initiative that will provide 2,000 officers of the Lagos State Police Command with three months of unlimited free travel across the state’s integrated public transportation network.

The initiative, tagged the Sanwo-Olu Cares Initiative for Police Officers, will allow beneficiaries to commute at no cost on the Lagos Blue Line and Red Line rail systems, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services and electric boats. After the initial three-month period, participating officers will continue to enjoy a 50 per cent discount on transport fares.

Announcing the programme on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transport and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, said the scheme was designed to appreciate the sacrifices of police officers and other security personnel in safeguarding lives and property across Lagos.

Adekoya explained that the initiative also commemorates the third anniversary of commercial operations on the Lagos Blue Line Rail, Nigeria’s first intra-city electric rail service.

He noted that the transport intervention forms part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of security personnel serving in the state.

According to him, the latest programme builds on several officer-focused welfare initiatives introduced by the state government in recent months. These include free eye screening services and the distribution of prescription eyeglasses to personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The Lagos State Government said the initiative underscores its commitment to supporting security agencies while encouraging greater use of the state’s expanding multimodal transport system.
