Tinubu Flags Off ₦216bn Osun Road Projects, Charges Contractors On Quality Delivery

President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the construction of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road and the reconstruction of the Gbongan-Osogbo Road in Osun State, with a combined value of about ₦216.65 billion, directing contractors to deliver quality work within the approved timelines.

Represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, at the flag-off ceremony in Osogbo on Thursday, the President said the projects underscore the Federal Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and ensuring value for public funds.

Tinubu assured that his administration would enforce quality standards, transparency and accountability throughout the execution of the projects.

He also urged contractors to engage young people during construction to provide them with practical skills and employment opportunities.

According to the President, the 44-kilometre Gbongan-Osogbo Road project will involve the rehabilitation of failed sections and reconstruction of deteriorated dual carriageway segments linking Osogbo with communities including Owode-Ede, Akoda-Ede, Sekona, Oogi, Ode-Omu and Gbongan.

The project was awarded to Trucrete Solutions Limited at a cost of ₦101.8 billion and is expected to be completed within 24 months.

Tinubu further disclosed that the approximately 82-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road, described as the shortest route between Osogbo and Ibadan, had been awarded to Peculiar Concerns Limited for ₦114.85 billion, with the same 24-month completion period.

The President noted that the road traverses key agricultural communities in Osun and Oyo states and is expected to boost the movement of goods and people while stimulating economic activities.

He also highlighted progress on other federal road projects, including the rehabilitation of the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha Road and the dualisation of the Ilesha-Akure-Owo-Benin Road.

Providing updates on major national infrastructure projects, Tinubu said Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Lagos had been substantially completed, while work was progressing on other sections across Ogun, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

He added that construction on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway was ongoing at different stages, with completion levels ranging from 18 to 60 per cent.

The President also said sections of the Trans-Sahara trade route stretching from Calabar through Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa to Abuja had commenced, while other segments were undergoing design and mobilisation.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, urged residents of Osun State to support the ruling party in the forthcoming governorship election, describing the road projects as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to the state’s development.

Also speaking, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, commended the Tinubu administration and pledged support for the President ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan and Gbongan-Osogbo road projects form part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure development programme aimed at improving transportation, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic growth across the country.
