TRACE Deploys Special Eid-El-Kabir Operation Across Ogun Major Traffic Corridors
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has launched a statewide special operation aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists and other road users during the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations across 27 major traffic corridors in the state.
The operation, tagged “Safety on Ogun 27 Major Traffic Corridors,” commenced on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and is scheduled to run until Sunday, May 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Media and Strategy of the agency, Cmdr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the exercise is being coordinated under the directive of the most senior TRACE Commander and head of the agency’s day-to-day operations, Cmdr. Elias Omonayajo Adedayo.
The statement disclosed that TRACE operatives would be strategically deployed to Eid praying grounds across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State to manage traffic flow and parking arrangements, while ensuring orderly movement at entry and exit points.
It added that the special operation would involve increased patrol visibility, deployment of rescue and emergency response teams, as well as intensified public enlightenment campaigns to guide motorists during the festive period.
TRACE noted that the operation became necessary in view of the anticipated increase in vehicular and human movement associated with the Sallah celebration.
The agency listed the affected major corridors to include the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin/Ore Expressway, Sango/Ota-Atan-Owode-Idiroko Highway, Atan-Lusada-Agbara-Badagry Highway.
Including, Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange Expressway, Abeokuta-Ewekoro-Ifo-Sango/Ota Expressway, and Rounder-Abeokuta-Olorunda-Ayetoro-Imeko-Ilara Border route, among others.
TRACE also advised motorists to exercise caution on roads currently undergoing construction and rehabilitation, including the Ota-Idiroko Road, Sagamu-Ajebandele Road, Sagamu-Papalanto-Ilaro-Obelle Road, and Ikorodu-Sagamu Road.
Motorists were urged to obey traffic diversion signs, drive patiently, and remain considerate to other road users, while TRACE officers would be on ground to regulate traffic and maintain orderliness.
The agency further explained that the exercise would be carried out in collaboration with other security and safety agencies in the state through initiatives such as the TRACE Traffic Whistle Blower Initiative, TRACE Emergency Traffic Service, and the Community-Based Traffic Management Scheme, popularly known as TRACE MAYORS.
According to the statement, field commanders have also been directed to ensure that all operatives remain professional, civil, fair, and firm in the discharge of their duties throughout the operation.
While felicitating with the Muslim faithful and residents of the state, Cmdr. Omonayajo advised motorists against speeding, drunk driving, and unnecessary night travel, urging them to adequately plan their journeys and strictly comply with traffic regulations.
He warned that any vehicle impounded for traffic offences during the celebration period would not be released until Monday, June 1, 2026, after the conclusion of the special operation.
TRACE also released emergency contact numbers for rescue operations and distress situations as 112 (toll-free), 0706 942 5555, 0806 270 3568, and 0803 491 9165.
The agency added that its social media platforms would provide real-time traffic updates, advisories, diversion notices, and emergency alerts throughout the festive period.
