Tragic Tanker Accident Claims Lives of Tricycle Passengers in Delta

A devastating road accident has claimed multiple lives in Delta State after a petrol tanker rammed into a commercial tricycle, popularly known as “Keke Maruwa,” at Refinery Junction near Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the tanker suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the tricycle. The impact of the collision was severe, killing the rider and all passengers instantly.

Emergency responders and sympathisers quickly gathered at the scene to assist in clearing the wreckage, while the remains of the victims were evacuated to a nearby morgue. Authorities are yet to release the exact number of casualties.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of heavy-duty vehicles on Nigerian roads, particularly issues related to vehicle maintenance and regulatory enforcement.

In a related development, another fatal accident involving a tipper truck was recently recorded in Ondo State, further highlighting the growing rate of road accidents across the country.

Stakeholders continue to call for stricter safety measures, improved driver training, and better enforcement of traffic regulations to curb the rising number of road fatalities.
