Yobe SSG Inspects 72km Buni-Gari-Teteba Road Project

The Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje, has inspected the ongoing rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 72-kilometre Buni-Gari-Teteba Road, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work less than three weeks after the contractor mobilised to the site.

The project, awarded to Greyland Construction Limited on July 16, 2026, is expected to be completed within eight months.

During the inspection, the project’s site engineer, Engr. Iliya Ngita, briefed the SSG on the progress of work, which he said had reached various stages, including site clearance, earthworks and asphalt laying.

Ngita attributed the early progress to the contractor’s mobilisation of adequate manpower, equipment and other resources to the project site, noting that construction activities were ongoing along different sections of the road.

Speaking after inspecting the ongoing works, Goje commended the contractor for the progress recorded so far and urged the company to sustain the momentum throughout the duration of the project.

He, however, cautioned that the need for speedy completion should not compromise the quality of the road, stressing that the contractor must strictly adhere to approved engineering specifications and construction standards.

The SSG assured that the Yobe State Government would continue to monitor the project closely to ensure that it is delivered within the agreed contractual period and provides lasting value to residents.

According to him, the Buni-Gari-Teteba Road is strategically important to the state because of its potential to improve connectivity among communities and facilitate the movement of people and agricultural produce.

He added that the completion of the road would improve access to markets and stimulate economic activities along the corridor.

Goje said the project was also in line with the state government’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which seeks to open up communities, strengthen transportation networks and create an enabling environment for socio-economic development.

He further assured residents that the government would maintain regular monitoring of major infrastructure projects across the state to promote accountability, ensure value for money and facilitate timely completion.

The SSG urged the contractor and other stakeholders involved in the project to maintain the current pace of work while ensuring that all construction activities meet the required standards.
