OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

A fatal road traffic crash occurred at about 12:00 noon on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Danco axis of Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, leaving two persons dead and two others injured.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with registration number KRD 850 HN, travelling from Lagos towards Sagamu, suffered a tyre burst allegedly due to excessive speed. The vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a stationary, unregistered DAF truck parked by the roadside.

The SUV was said to be conveying four male occupants, including the driver, former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and two other passengers identified as foreign nationals.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the two foreign nationals sustained fatal injuries and were evacuated to Livewell Mortuary, Sagamu.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were injured and taken to an undisclosed hospital in Sagamu for medical treatment.

The accidented Lexus SUV and the DAF truck were subsequently towed to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Sagamu, for further investigation.

Normal traffic flow was restored shortly after the incident, following the prompt intervention of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the Nigeria Police, and the FRSC, who worked together to clear the road and manage traffic.

The agencies commiserated with the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a tragic and devastating loss. They also reiterated calls on motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, ensure vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys, and adopt defensive driving practices, particularly during the festive season marked by heavy vehicular movement.

They prayed for divine comfort for the families and loved ones of the victims affected by the tragic crash.
