LAGESC Urges Proper Waste Disposal, Environmental Cleanliness During Sallah
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has urged residents of Lagos to maintain proper waste disposal and environmental cleanliness during and after the Eid-el-Adha celebrations.
The Corps Marshal of the agency, Major Olaniyi Olatubosun Cole, made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi.
Cole noted that the Sallah celebration, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah through the symbolic slaughtering of rams, should also be marked with environmentally responsible practices.
He urged residents, particularly Muslim faithful, to properly dispose of waste generated during the festivities, patronise Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators, and embrace actions that promote a cleaner environment.
According to him, operatives of the agency would remain on duty across the state throughout the holiday period to monitor environmental infractions, arrest offenders, and sensitise residents on the need to comply with environmental laws.
The Corps Marshal also warned traders and residents against displaying goods for sale on road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, medians, road verges, and gutter slabs, stressing that street trading obstructs both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
He further advised commuters and pedestrians to make use of designated pedestrian bridges instead of crossing highways indiscriminately, noting that such unsafe practices often lead to hit-and-run accidents, serious injuries, and deaths.
The statement was signed by the Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy Unit of LAGESC, Ajayi Lukman.
