Ondo Partners Tech Firm To Deploy Electric Buses, Charging Stations
The Ondo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with technology firm ADMINSERV to introduce electric buses and charging infrastructure as part of efforts to reduce transportation costs and promote cleaner mobility across the state.
The initiative will begin with the deployment of five electric buses valued at N180 million each, alongside the installation of charging stations at selected bus stops in Akure, the state capital. The facilities are expected to be extended to other local government areas as the project progresses. five electric buses valued at N180 million each, alongside the installation of charging stations at selected bus stops in Akure, the state capital. The facilities are expected to be extended to other local government areas as the project progresses.
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transport, Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi, disclosed this during the signing of the agreement, describing the initiative as a pioneering effort in the state’s transport sector.
Ogunyemi said the partnership was designed to address rising transportation costs while improving access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure for individuals, businesses and organisations.
He explained that the charging stations would not be restricted to the electric buses deployed under the initiative, as other electric vehicle owners would also be allowed to use the facilities.
According to him, the state government is pursuing electric mobility alongside compressed natural gas (CNG) as part of broader efforts to make transportation more affordable and accessible.
“This is the first thing that is happening in Ondo State. They want to use those bus stops as charging points for electric vehicles. This would reduce the cost of transportation drastically,” Ogunyemi said.
He added that the initiative followed discussions involving transport commissioners, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Presidential Implementation Committee on CNG and electric vehicles on the adoption of alternative energy sources for transportation.
The transport adviser also disclosed that the government was developing CNG infrastructure at strategic locations, including the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and an area opposite an NNPC facility in Ore.
The facilities, he said, would improve access to alternative fuel options across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The Managing Director of ADMINSERV, Peter Nnamani, said the company, established in 2025, was focused on developing technology-driven solutions to improve transportation services.
He explained that the proposed electric bus system would be supported by an artificial intelligence-enabled application designed to improve mobility, punctuality, security and environmental sustainability.
Nnamani said the company projected that users’ monthly transportation expenses could fall from approximately N9,000 to between N5,000 and N6,000 under the proposed system.
He added that the digital platform would enable the monitoring of buses and drivers, helping to improve operational efficiency and accountability.
According to him, the buses would operate on scheduled routes to reduce waiting times, improve punctuality and provide commuters with a more reliable transportation system.
Nnamani further stated that the project was expected to generate employment opportunities through the construction and management of charging facilities, as well as the recruitment of bus drivers.
He described the Ondo initiative as ADMINSERV’s first project in Nigeria, expressing optimism that the integrated electric mobility system would contribute to improved transportation services in the state.
The partnership reflects the Ondo State Government’s broader efforts to diversify transportation energy sources, reduce commuting expenses and encourage the adoption of cleaner alternatives to conventional petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.
