Bauchi-Damaturu-Maiduguri Highway Cut Off As Flood Washes Away Road Section

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has warned motorists against travelling along the Bauchi-Damaturu-Maiduguri federal highway following the collapse of a section of the road near the Darazo exit.

The agency issued the warning on Monday, September 28, 2026, after a significant portion of the highway was washed away by flood, leaving the route impassable.

According to YOSEMA, the affected section was cut off as floodwater swept through the road, forcing motorists to stop and disrupting movement along the major corridor linking Bauchi, Yobe and Borno states.

“As of Sunday, 27th September 2026, a significant portion of the Bauchi-Damaturu road has been cut off near the Darazo exit,” the agency said in its statement.

Images from the affected area showed the highway severely damaged, with floodwater flowing underneath the washed-out section and effectively dividing the road into two.

YOSEMA consequently advised motorists travelling along the Bauchi-Yobe-Maiduguri corridor to exercise extreme caution and, where possible, suspend journeys until the situation is brought under control.

The agency also extended its warning to travellers moving from Kano towards Gombe, urging them to take necessary safety precautions and remain alert to possible hazards along the route.

It appealed to road users to prioritise their safety and await further updates on alternative routes and possible intervention efforts by relevant authorities.

The affected highway is an important transport route connecting communities and states in the North-East, making the disruption likely to have implications for the movement of passengers and goods if the situation persists.
