Bauchi Police Launch Statewide Crackdown On Traffic Offenders

The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement campaign against traffic offenders as part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

Announcing the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening enforcement of traffic laws nationwide.

Aliyu explained that the initiative became necessary following a rise in traffic violations across Bauchi metropolis and major highways, which have contributed to congestion, road crashes, and other threats to public safety.

He stated that the enforcement would cover all categories of road users, including commercial drivers, private motorists, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, and horse riders.

According to the commissioner, vehicles found violating traffic regulations will be impounded, while offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He stressed that police personnel would not be exempt from the exercise, warning that any serving officer found violating traffic rules would face disciplinary action under existing police regulations.

Aliyu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining order on the roads, safeguarding lives and property, and promoting safer road use across the state.

He also urged residents to cooperate with officers conducting the enforcement operation and encouraged members of the public to report reckless driving and other traffic violations to the nearest police station.

The command said the enforcement campaign took effect immediately.
