One Killed, Two Injured In Crash Along Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road

One person has died while two others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road corridor in Lagos.

The accident occurred at New Road, inward Jakande, and involved a Mack flat-bed articulated trailer, a Toyota mini truck and two motorcycles.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the articulated trailer, who was allegedly speeding, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the moving Toyota mini truck.

The impact caused the mini truck to somersault before colliding with one of the motorcycles, leaving one person dead at the scene and two others with varying degrees of injuries.

LASTMA said its personnel, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded promptly by securing the crash scene, managing traffic and coordinating rescue operations alongside other emergency responders.

The injured victims were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while security agencies were notified to provide additional support. A recovery truck later evacuated the damaged mini truck, restoring the free flow of traffic along the route.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sadness over the loss of life and attributed the crash to excessive speeding.

He urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to adhere strictly to speed limits, avoid reckless driving and remain vigilant while using the roads.

Bakare-Oki also called on all road users to obey traffic regulations and adopt safe driving practices, stressing that compliance with road safety rules is essential to reducing road crashes and preventing avoidable loss of lives across the state.
