Benin-Agbor Road Gridlock Worsens As Motorists, Residents Demand Urgent Repairs

Traffic congestion along the Benin-Agbor section of the Lagos-Benin Expressway has persisted for days, leaving motorists, commuters and residents stranded for several hours and disrupting commercial activities along the busy corridor.

The gridlock has been linked to the deteriorating condition of the road, particularly failed portions that have made movement difficult for motorists navigating the route.

Several motorists who spoke on the situation expressed frustration over the prolonged delays, noting that the worsening condition of the road is taking a toll on their businesses, vehicles and daily activities.

One of the affected drivers lamented that the road had suffered years of neglect under successive administrations, despite repeated calls for government intervention. He said the combination of damaged sections and the heavy volume of vehicles using the route had worsened the situation, resulting in motorists spending several hours on journeys that would ordinarily take a much shorter time.

Residents living along the corridor have also raised concerns about the impact of the gridlock on their communities. According to them, the congestion is affecting the movement of people and goods while also disrupting commercial activities and imposing additional hardship on road users.

The Chairman of the Ikpoba-Okha Youth Association, Kingsley Osenmwingiewho, joined calls for urgent government intervention, urging the Federal Government to accelerate the rehabilitation of failed portions of the Benin-Asaba Road.

Osenmwingiewho specifically called for immediate attention to the Benin-Agbor bypass axis, where the deteriorating road condition has become a major concern for motorists and residents.

He said urgent rehabilitation of the affected sections would help ease the current congestion and improve the movement of people, goods and services along the busy Benin-Asaba corridor.

Road users have consequently appealed to the authorities to move beyond temporary interventions and commence comprehensive repairs capable of providing a lasting solution to the recurring traffic crisis.

With the gridlock continuing, motorists and residents are calling for swift government action to restore the road to good condition, improve traffic flow and reduce the hours commuters are currently spending on the route.
