Benson Commissions 3.3km Olu-Odo Road, Five Others In Ikorodu

Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Babajimi Benson, has commissioned the newly constructed 3.3-kilometre Olu-Odo–Igbo-Agbowa Road and five roads in Araromi-Solebo Estate, Lagos State.

The projects were commissioned on Saturday, October 10, as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure, enhance mobility and promote economic activities across Ikorodu Division under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The ceremonies attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, community development associations, serving and former council chairmen, youths and residents, who commended the lawmaker for facilitating infrastructure projects in the area.

Speaking at the events, Benson, who chairs the House Committee on Defence, described the completed roads as evidence of the importance of aligning government development priorities with the needs of local communities.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for supporting infrastructure development, noting that improved road networks would ease transportation difficulties, enhance access to essential services and create opportunities for commercial activities.

The lawmaker also emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among the Federal Government, elected representatives, state authorities and host communities to deliver projects capable of improving residents’ living conditions.

Benson acknowledged the contributions of the Lagos State Government to development across the state and expressed optimism that continued cooperation with the state leadership would facilitate further projects in Ikorodu Division.

He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and youth development, adding that effective public service should be measured by its positive impact on the lives of the people.

Highlighting other planned and ongoing interventions in Ikorodu, Benson listed a proposed bridge linking Majidun and Ogolonto, the Pacific–Igbe Road project, additional transformers, security vehicles and improvements to healthcare facilities.

He also disclosed plans to rebuild and equip the diagnostic centre in Imota and expand livelihood opportunities for residents.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Hammed Aroyewun, commended Benson for facilitating projects across the council area, describing the road construction as an important intervention for communities whose economic and social activities had been constrained by poor road access.

Aroyewun said cooperation between community development structures, residents and contractors contributed to the successful completion of the projects. He added that improved road connectivity would deliver economic benefits beyond the physical transformation of the affected areas.

He also highlighted other completed, ongoing and proposed projects in the LCDA, including the Offin–Oreta Road, Pacific–Igbe/Ijede Road, Agunfoye–Olumo Road, Morekete–Oreta Road, a Federal Health Centre, an ICT Centre and a proposed Command Secondary School.

While appreciating the completion of the Olu-Odo Road, the council chairman appealed for the construction of the second phase of the Igbo-Agbowa/Lajo Road to further improve connectivity among neighbouring communities.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Igbo-Agbowa Community Development Association, Ahmed Salami, expressed gratitude to Benson for addressing the community’s longstanding road infrastructure needs.

Salami said the improved road would make it easier for residents to access markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services. He also called for further improvements to the Lajo/Offin Road.

The member representing Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abiodun Moshood Aro, also praised Benson for completing the project, recalling that he had previously drawn the federal lawmaker’s attention to the poor condition of the road.

Former Minister of Works and Infrastructure and member of the Governance Advisory Council, Adeseye Ogunlewe, equally commended Benson’s infrastructure interventions across Ikorodu Division.

At Araromi-Solebo Estate, the Chairman of the Community Development Association, Ahmed Olayemi Oladipo, described the commissioning of the five roads as a significant milestone for residents who had long sought improved infrastructure.

Oladipo appreciated Benson for facilitating the projects and commended community members for their patience, cooperation and support throughout the construction process.

The ceremonies were attended by the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, alongside several political leaders, traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

Other dignitaries included former Lagos State Secretary to the Government, Olorunfunmi Basorun; former Lagos State Head of Service, Adesegun Olusola Ogunlewe; and council chairmen and political leaders from across Ikorodu Division.

The commissioning marks a further step towards improving road infrastructure in the benefiting communities, with residents expected to enjoy better access, easier movement and increased opportunities for social and economic activities.
