FG Introduces One-Stop Screening System To Strengthen Airport Security Nationwide

The Federal Government has announced plans to tighten security across Nigeria’s airports through the introduction of a one-stop joint-interest screening system. The initiative, directed by the Office of the National Security Adviser, is aimed at improving coordination among security agencies and preventing unauthorized access to critical airport infrastructure.

Under the new system, agencies such as immigration, customs, and other security bodies will conduct checks at a single point, eliminating duplication and enhancing efficiency. Officials say this unified approach will not only streamline passenger processing but also strengthen overall airport security.

Speaking on the development, a senior official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Ahmadu Danjuma, noted that additional measures have already been implemented. These include increased perimeter patrols, deployment of more personnel, and installation of advanced screening technologies like X-ray and L3 machines at major terminals.

Authorities have also intensified intelligence gathering and upgraded perimeter fencing to prevent intrusion by unauthorized individuals and stray animals. In a further move to bolster security, aviation personnel have been approved to carry arms, while mandatory training under the Basic STP123 AVSEC programme has been introduced for all security staff.

The training focuses on threat detection, passenger and cargo screening, access control, and emergency response procedures. According to officials, these reforms are part of broader efforts to align Nigeria’s aviation security framework with global best practices.

The government expressed confidence that improved collaboration, modern technology, and enhanced capacity building will sustain safety levels and ensure efficient airport operations across the country.
