Firm Warns Motorists Against Unsafe Vehicle Accessories

A Nigerian vehicle accessories retailer, Carfanzy Accessories, has urged motorists to prioritise safety and vehicle compatibility when purchasing and installing car accessories, warning that poorly fitted products could interfere with essential safety systems and driver controls.

The company gave the advice amid ongoing concerns over road safety in Nigeria, noting that accessories such as seat covers, floor mats, phone holders and other interior fittings should not be selected solely based on price or appearance.

Carfanzy said motorists must ensure that accessories are suitable for their vehicle’s model, year, trim and interior configuration to prevent potential safety risks.

The retailer emphasised the importance of proper fitting when purchasing seat covers, explaining that vehicle seats differ in their contours, headrests, armrests and folding arrangements, even among different versions of the same model.

It advised vehicle owners to confirm their seating configuration before installation and ensure that seat covers remain secure without obstructing seat belts, adjustment mechanisms or other essential functions.

The company also warned motorists to exercise caution when installing covers on seats fitted with airbags or occupancy sensors.

According to Carfanzy, some vehicle manufacturers restrict the use of certain seat covers, making it necessary for motorists to verify whether an accessory is compatible with their vehicle’s safety systems before purchase.

The retailer said floor mats also required careful consideration, particularly those installed on the driver’s side.

It advised motorists to use mats designed to fit the vehicle’s footwell, ensure that they are secured through the appropriate retention points and keep them away from the pedals.

“Mats should not be stacked, and owners should check their position after cleaning or adjustment,” the company stated.

Carfanzy noted that loose or improperly positioned floor mats could interfere with pedal operation, while poorly fitted seat covers might affect safety features incorporated into vehicle seats.

It further cautioned that phone holders and electronic accessories should be installed in locations that do not obstruct the driver’s view or restrict access to vehicle controls.
