FRSC Arrests 1,691 Traffic Offenders In Five-Day Nationwide Operation

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested 1,691 traffic offenders during a five-day nationwide enforcement exercise tagged Operation Guduma.

The operation, which was conducted simultaneously across major transport corridors in 11 states, targeted traffic violations and unsafe road practices that pose risks to lives and property.

According to the FRSC, the exercise focused on offences including vehicle overloading, the mixing of passengers with goods, the use of fake diplomatic number plates, and other vehicle identification-related violations.

The Corps said the operation uncovered several vehicles carrying overloaded cargoes and containers that were not properly secured, noting that such practices significantly increase the likelihood of road crashes, fatalities, and economic losses.

FRSC officials stated that the enforcement drive was aimed at improving compliance with road safety regulations and reducing the activities of motorists whose actions endanger other road users.

The Corps expressed concern over the continued disregard for safety standards by some transport operators, stressing that overloading and improper cargo transportation remain major causes of road accidents in the country.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement and public awareness campaigns designed to promote safer highways and reduce road traffic crashes nationwide.

The FRSC also warned motorists and transport operators to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasizing that violators would continue to face sanctions as part of efforts to ensure safer roads across the country.
