FRSC Charges Commanders To Adopt Proactive Traffic Management
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged its commanding officers to adopt proactive leadership and develop practical solutions to emerging traffic management challenges to improve road safety across Nigeria.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, gave the charge while declaring open a two-day training programme for management staff and commanding officers in Abuja.
He said the changing road safety landscape, driven by population growth, urbanisation and increasing mobility, requires leaders who can anticipate and address challenges before they escalate.
According to the Corps Marshal, commanding officers must provide clear direction, effectively deploy available resources and ensure that operational decisions translate into measurable improvements in road safety.
Mallam Mohammed stressed that enforcement alone cannot guarantee safer roads, calling for stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance traffic management nationwide.
He also encouraged the adoption of technology to improve enforcement, emergency response, information management and data analysis, noting that innovation is critical to achieving the Corps’ safety objectives.
The Corps Marshal further emphasised the need to build a competent workforce through continuous mentoring and leadership development while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability within the organisation.
Earlier, the Training Coordinator, Professor Nasirudeen Usman, described continuous training and retraining as essential to strengthening traffic management and improving road safety across the country.
He commended the FRSC leadership for prioritising capacity building, saying the initiative would enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery.
The training, themed “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Enhanced Service Delivery in a Challenging Environment,” has attracted more than 250 commanding officers from across the country.
