The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has stepped up efforts to ensure seamless infrastructure delivery and effective traffic management following a strategic meeting with the Federal Controller of Works, Engr. Olufemi Dare, and his delegation.

The engagement, held on Thursday, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Works to improve project execution and address traffic challenges arising from ongoing federal road projects across the state.

Welcoming the delegation, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the meeting as a critical step towards enhancing institutional cooperation and achieving efficient project delivery.

He highlighted Lagos State’s unique mobility demands, noting that a population of over 30 million residents and heavy daily vehicular movement require proactive traffic management and strong safety frameworks.

Mr. Osiyemi stressed the need for action-driven and strategic engagements between both tiers of government, adding that sustained collaboration is essential to delivering timely and impactful infrastructure projects that minimise inconvenience to road users.

Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works, Engr. Olufemi Dare, underscored the importance of intentional synergy between the Federal Ministry of Works and the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

According to him, effective coordination, particularly in traffic management, is crucial to ensuring the smooth execution of road projects across the state.

He identified the ongoing Coastal Road project as a major area requiring close operational cooperation, citing the high traffic volume currently experienced along the corridor.

In his response, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, assured the federal delegation of increased deployment of personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), improved road signage, and enhanced security support along the Coastal Road axis.

Mr. Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to sustained collaboration with federal authorities to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to commuters and other road users.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Ministry of Works.
