Lagos Warns Motorists Against Patronising Fake Vehicle Documentation Agents
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to motorists against engaging the services of unauthorized agents for vehicle documentation, following reports of widespread issuance of fake documents across the state.
In a statement signed by, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation and dated Thursday, March 26, 2026. the State Ministry of Transportation disclosed that some unscrupulous individuals have been producing and distributing fraudulent vehicle documents, including Roadworthiness Certificates and other vehicle particulars, to unsuspecting members of the public.
The Ministry strongly condemned the illegal practice, emphasizing that vehicle documentation remains a statutory responsibility handled exclusively by duly authorized agencies under its supervision.
It stressed that any document obtained outside these official channels is invalid and constitutes a serious offence under the law.
Motorists were advised to refrain from patronizing unauthorized agents, noting that such actions not only compromise public safety but also expose individuals to possible legal sanctions.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured residents that the Ministry, in collaboration with security agencies, has intensified enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute those involved in the fraudulent activities.
He added that offenders would face the full weight of the law once apprehended.
The Ministry also urged members of the public to verify the authenticity of service providers before engaging them and to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities via the dedicated hotlines: 09020004000 and 09020009000.
