LASEMA Clears Multiple-Vehicle Crash At Alapere, Restores Traffic Flow

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has cleared a multiple-vehicle accident at Chinatown, inward Alapere Bus Stop, Lagos, restoring normal traffic movement along the affected corridor.

The accident, which occurred at about 1:35 p.m. on Thursday, involved a low-bed truck conveying two 20-foot containers and a stationary truck carrying a 40-foot container.

LASEMA said its emergency response team was mobilised following a distress call, adding that preliminary reports indicated that the stationary truck had developed a mechanical fault, suspected to be brake failure, while in motion.

The collision also affected three other vehicles: a Toyota Prius, a Toyota Highlander and a Kia Rio.

According to the agency, no life was lost in the incident. However, the driver of the truck carrying the 40-foot container sustained a minor head injury and received first aid at the scene before being evacuated to the nearest hospital for further medical attention.

LASEMA disclosed that its response team collaborated with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Alapere Division to secure the scene and manage traffic.

The joint operation also ensured the safety of motorists and other road users while efforts were made to remove the wreckage and restore normal vehicular movement.

The agency said the affected vehicles were successfully recovered from the carriageway through a coordinated operation involving private towing services and heavy-duty equipment.

The recovered vehicles were subsequently handed over to the LASTMA Recovery Unit for safe custody.

LASEMA added that adequate traffic management measures were implemented to ease the congestion that followed the accident, resulting in the clearance of the affected route and the restoration of free traffic flow.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response and effective disaster management across Lagos State.

He urged residents and road users to remain safety-conscious and promptly report emergencies through the state’s toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112.
