LASEMA Rescues Crash Victims, Clears Gridlock In Multiple Lagos Emergencies
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has rescued injured road users and restored traffic flow following a series of emergencies recorded across Lagos State between Friday, September 25 and Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The incidents, which occurred across major road corridors, included road crashes, container truck breakdowns, a fallen container, a shop fire and other emergencies that threatened lives, property and the free movement of motorists.
One of the major incidents occurred early Saturday morning at Otedola, along the Mobil-Berger axis, where a Ford Escape SUV reportedly rammed into a moving truck from behind at about 6:07am.
The crash left the male driver and a female passenger injured.
LASEMA’s Tiger Squad from C3 responded to the scene, where its paramedics, working with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), administered first aid and provided pre-hospital care before transporting the victims to the Trauma Centre for further treatment.
Personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force also supported the rescue operation.
The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed and taken to Isheri Police Station for further action.
In a separate incident on Friday morning, a truck carrying a 40-foot container developed a mechanical fault at Palm Avenue Bus Stop, inward Oye, at about 8:41am, obstructing traffic.
LASEMA’s Alpha Eagle Team from Cappa was deployed to the scene to manage traffic and prevent secondary accidents while awaiting the agency’s Super Metro heavy-duty recovery equipment.
The truck was eventually recovered and moved to a nearby lay-by, restoring the flow of traffic.
Later that evening, another containerised truck suffered an electrical fault at Ojuwoye Bus Stop, inward Oshodi.
Following a distress call received at about 7:24pm, the Alpha Eagle Team secured the area, managed traffic and facilitated the recovery of the truck to a safe location with the aid of the Super Metro.
Another containerised truck that became immobilised due to mechanical failure at Olorunshogo Bus Stop, inward Cappa, was also recovered and moved to a lay-by.
In the early hours of Sunday, LASEMA personnel recovered another truck conveying interlocking stones after it broke down at Ojuwoye, thereby clearing the affected section of the road.
Meanwhile, emergency responders also prevented a potentially major fire disaster at Bakare Street, Ojodu Berger, where three of eight shops stocked with food and frozen products caught fire.
The fire, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, was reportedly triggered by an electrical surge following the restoration of power.
LASEMA’s Tiger Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly responded to the incident and contained the blaze before it spread to the remaining shops.
No life was lost in the incident.
Another major emergency occurred at Shoprite, inward Governor’s Road, where a loaded 40-foot container reportedly detached from the turntable of a Sinotruk truck and fell alongside its flatbed, completely blocking a lane.
LASEMA responders immediately secured the scene and commenced traffic management to protect motorists and other road users.
A multi-agency recovery operation involving LASEMA’s Lowbed, a private tow truck, an empty Sinotruk truck for transloading and a private forklift was subsequently deployed.
The Peak Milk products inside the container were successfully transferred to another vehicle, while the affected truck head was towed to the LASTMA yard.
The fallen flatbed was also uprighted and moved to a nearby lay-by, allowing the obstructed roadway to be cleared and reopened to traffic.
Beyond responding to emergencies, LASEMA’s heavy-duty Hiab equipment was deployed to Fagba Bus Stop, inward Iju, on Saturday evening to assist with the safe installation of a billboard.
The operation was successfully completed without incident.
LASEMA said all the emergency operations had been concluded, with affected roads restored and response teams safely returned to their respective bases.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid and professional emergency response.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists and other road users to comply with safety regulations, maintain their vehicles properly and exercise caution while using the roads.
He also assured residents that LASEMA would continue to maintain its readiness to respond promptly to emergencies across the state.
