LASEMA Responds To Three Emergencies In Lagos, One Dead In Epe Crash

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has responded to three separate emergencies in Mushin, Odo-Iyalaro and Epe, including two road accidents and a truck breakdown, with one person confirmed dead in the Epe incident.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

According to LASEMA, the first incident occurred at about 7:58 p.m. on Friday on Odo-Iyalaro Bridge, inward Maryland, involving a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Venza.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Venza had stopped by the roadside after running short of fuel when the Camry, whose driver was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, rammed into it.

The Camry driver sustained injuries and received initial treatment from LASEMA paramedics and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being evacuated to a trauma centre for further medical attention.

No death was recorded in the incident, while both vehicles were towed to Area F Police Station. The accident scene was subsequently cleared, allowing traffic to resume on the bridge.

In a separate incident at about 10:36 p.m. on Friday, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team responded to a broken-down HOWO truck at Olosha, Mushin.

The truck, with registration number JJJ-293XZ, became stuck on a damaged section of the road, obstructing about 60 per cent of the carriageway.

The agency said traffic diversion measures were introduced while its heavy-duty recovery equipment, Super Metro, was deployed to remove the truck to a lay-by.

No casualty was recorded, and the road was subsequently reopened to motorists.

However, the third incident, which occurred at about 6:19 a.m. on Saturday at Oke-Oso, inward Itokin, Epe, resulted in the death of a truck motor assistant.

LASEMA said the accident involved two granite-laden tipper trucks, with preliminary findings indicating that one of the vehicles, bearing registration number ABG-226XB, suffered brake failure, lost control and collided sideways with the other truck.

The motor assistant on the first truck was reportedly thrown out of the vehicle and died on impact.

The deceased’s remains were recovered, bagged and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), while both damaged trucks were recovered and taken to the FRSC office.

The agency expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to ensure their vehicles were in good working condition, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and comply with road safety regulations.

LASEMA reaffirmed its readiness to respond to emergencies across Lagos State, urging residents to contact its toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112, when assistance is required.
