Police, Chinese Consulate Strengthen Partnership To Enhance Maritime Security In Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force, through the Ports Authority Police Western Command, has commenced efforts to deepen collaboration with the Chinese business community and diplomatic authorities to improve security along Nigeria’s maritime corridors.
The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the police and Chinese stakeholders operating within Nigeria’s maritime sector, particularly on issues bordering on port security, maritime safety, and the protection of foreign businesses and investors.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin, Agbaminoja reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing a secure and business-friendly environment for legitimate commercial activities within the nation’s ports.
She said the Ports Authority Police remains dedicated to protecting critical maritime infrastructure, preventing criminal activities, and improving the overall security framework of Nigeria’s seaports and logistics channels.
The discussions also covered improved information sharing, capacity development, and strategies for addressing emerging security threats that could affect trade and maritime operations.
On her part, the Chinese Consul General, Yan Yuqing, commended the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Ports Authority Police Western Command, in safeguarding port users, Chinese nationals, and foreign investors operating in the country.
Yuqing assured that the Chinese Consulate would continue to work with relevant Nigerian authorities to promote security, peace, and economic cooperation.
The partnership is expected to enhance confidence among investors while supporting smoother trade activities and stronger maritime security across Nigeria’s ports.
