Two Injured As Container Truck Overturns On Lagos-Ikeja Road

Two people were injured on Saturday after a 20-foot container truck overturned following a collision with another truck at New Garage, along Ikorodu Road, Ojota, Lagos State.

The accident, involving a truck with registration number SUL 460 ZY, caused significant traffic disruption as the overturned vehicle obstructed about half of the carriageway.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the container-laden truck collided with a flat-body truck whose driver reportedly fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the truck was carrying three people at the time of the crash, with two occupants sustaining injuries.

He disclosed that the driver’s assistant suffered serious head and chest injuries, alongside multiple bruises, while the driver sustained injuries to his mouth and shoulder.

Emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service provided first aid and advanced medical care to stabilise the victims before they were taken for further treatment.

The accident also damaged a high-tension electricity pole, causing power cables to fall across the road and creating additional danger for motorists, pedestrians and emergency personnel.

Personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were deployed to manage traffic and support the rescue operation, while Ikeja Electric officials secured the damaged power infrastructure and fallen cables.

Authorities subsequently commenced efforts to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow along the affected section of Ikorodu Road.
