Uba Sani Pays ₦2bn Compensation To 865 Property Owners For Kaduna Road Projects

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has disbursed ₦2 billion in compensation to 865 property owners affected by ongoing township road projects in Zaria, Sabon Gari and Giwa.

The latest payment brings the total compensation paid by the state government to more than ₦6.85 billion for residents whose properties have been affected by public infrastructure projects.

The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries at Unguwan Iya, Zaria, in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas; former Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero; and other government officials.

The exercise reflects the Sani administration’s policy of compensating affected property owners before the demolition of their buildings to pave the way for public projects.

According to the state government, the approach is designed to protect residents’ interests, reduce the hardship associated with displacement and facilitate the timely execution of road construction projects.

The latest disbursement follows previous compensation exercises, including the payment of ₦2.85 billion in February 2026 for road projects across the state and another ₦2 billion in July to about 1,000 people affected by the Rigasa-Tudun Wada flood and erosion control project.

Speaking after receiving his cheque, one of the beneficiaries from Zaria, Malam Ibrahim Ahmed, commended the governor for ensuring that affected residents received compensation before their properties were demolished.

He said the payment would enable beneficiaries to seek alternative accommodation without being left stranded by the road projects.

Similarly, a beneficiary from Sabon Gari, Hajiya Fatima Suleiman, expressed relief over the payment, noting that residents had been worried about losing their homes to the construction work.

She described the exercise as an example of leadership that prioritises the welfare of citizens alongside infrastructure development.

Traditional rulers, community leaders and political stakeholders at the event also commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of the importance of balancing public development with the protection of residents’ interests.

Meanwhile, the event witnessed a significant political development as several prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
The defectors, accompanied by thousands of supporters, were received into the APC by Governor Sani.

Among those who reportedly joined the ruling party were Bashir Sa’idu, Senator Audu Kwari, Mohammed Sani Bello Mainan Zazzau, Jafaru Sani, Mukhtar Hazo, Bala Alwa’u, Nasiru Abdullahi Maikano, Lawal Buba and Ephraim Iliyasu.

The defectors attributed their decision to what they described as the governor’s inclusive leadership, infrastructure development drive and people-oriented policies.

The development is expected to strengthen the APC’s political influence in Kaduna North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
