Edo Announces Traffic Diversion Ahead Of Remi Tinubu’s Visit
The Edo State Government has announced traffic diversions and temporary road closures in parts of Benin City ahead of the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
In a statement, the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Engr. Stainless Ijeghede, said the restrictions would take effect from 6am to 6pm.
According to the statement, the affected locations are Joromi Junction along Ekenwan Road and the Stadium Road junction with Ekenwan Road.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, plan their journeys ahead of time and cooperate with traffic officials to minimise congestion during the period.
The First Lady is expected to commission the state’s newly acquired Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and empower 5,000 women through her Renewed Hope Initiative during the visit.
Meanwhile, renovation and beautification works have intensified around Ring Road, Airport Road and other major routes leading to the venues scheduled for the event.
The ongoing preparations, alongside arrangements for the First Lady’s visit, have reportedly contributed to traffic congestion in several parts of Benin City.
Residents and motorists have expressed concerns over delays, particularly during peak hours, as road improvement and beautification activities continue across the city.
The traffic management agency urged road users to comply with the announced restrictions and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans to ensure smooth movement during the First Lady’s visit.
