Eno Sets December Deadline For Akwa Ibom Transport Projects
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as contractors handling transportation infrastructure projects across the state, to accelerate work and ensure their completion and commissioning before the end of December 2026.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, describing effective collaboration between the executive and legislature as essential to achieving the state’s ARISE Agenda and promoting sustainable development.
Eno gave the directives at separate engagements in the state over the weekend, emphasising the importance of timely project delivery, effective coordination and peaceful coexistence in advancing development.
Speaking during a progress briefing on transportation infrastructure and equipment projects, the governor said the initiatives were designed to improve connectivity, strengthen transportation services and provide residents with efficient and affordable mobility options.
He urged the relevant government agencies and contractors to intensify efforts, warning against avoidable delays that could jeopardise the year-end completion and commissioning deadline.
Particular attention was given to the Oron Maritime Infrastructure and Ferry Project, which Eno described as a strategic investment capable of stimulating economic growth, promoting tourism, improving maritime operations and strengthening security along the state’s waterways.
The project, which is reportedly 85 per cent complete, comprises a terminal building, passenger and cargo jetties, a Joint Task Force (JTF) jetty, a floating bar, warehouses and dry storage facilities.
Other components include fish processing and drying sections, solar-powered cold rooms for fishmongers and a recreational area.
When completed, the facilities are expected to enhance maritime transportation and support commercial activities, particularly fishing, cargo handling and tourism, while improving access to water-based transportation services.
The governor’s directive underscores his administration’s determination to fast-track ongoing transportation projects and ensure they deliver the intended benefits to residents before the end of the year.
