Kebbi Begins Construction Of 58km Road, Other Projects Across Three LGAs

The Kebbi State Government has commenced the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Local Government Areas to improve transportation, boost agricultural production and stimulate economic activities.

The projects, flagged off by Governor Nasir Idris on Tuesday, include the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, the Unguwa Jeji–Gayi–Diggi–Maidahini road and several access roads within Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

Other roads scheduled for construction and rehabilitation include those in Aliero Quarters, behind Azbir Arena, the Old Garage area behind Texaco, and the route from Birnin Kebbi Police Station Junction to Nagari College.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies, Idris said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and delivering infrastructure that would directly improve residents’ living conditions.

He explained that the roads would strengthen connections between communities, ease the movement of people and agricultural produce, and create opportunities for farmers, traders and other business operators.

According to the governor, improved road infrastructure remains essential to economic development because it facilitates the efficient movement of people, goods and services.

He particularly highlighted the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, noting that although it was not included in his original campaign promises, his administration considered it necessary because of its economic importance to the benefiting communities.

Idris said the decision to award the contract was driven by the need to improve connectivity, support agricultural activities and strengthen commercial relationships across the affected areas.

The contract for the Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road was awarded to M/S China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited.

The governor added that his administration was determined to extend infrastructure development to communities whose livelihoods depend largely on efficient transportation and access to markets.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Works, Umar Muslim, assured residents that the projects would be executed in line with approved specifications and quality standards.

He said the Ministry of Works would monitor the contractors to ensure compliance with contractual terms and established construction standards.

Muslim noted that the projects would facilitate the movement of goods and services, support agricultural development and create a more favourable environment for private investment.

He commended the governor for approving the projects, expressing confidence that the improved road network would stimulate economic activities, increase the state’s internally generated revenue and promote sustainable economic growth across Kebbi State.
