LASEMA Restores Normalcy After Two Accidents On Lagos Roads
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has restored normal traffic flow following two separate road incidents along the Onipanu-Fadeyi corridor of Lagos, including a hit-and-run accident involving a teenager.
The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that emergency responders were deployed promptly to both scenes.
The first incident occurred at about 5:10am opposite the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Onipanu, inward Fadeyi, and involved a HOWO truck with registration number T-36016LA and a black Toyota Camry marked FST-970KS.
According to the preliminary assessment, reckless driving and excessive speed by the truck driver contributed to the crash.
LASEMA’s Cobra Team, working with officers of the Nigeria Police Force and personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), immediately diverted traffic to prevent secondary accidents while recovery operations were carried out.
No life was lost in the crash.
The damaged Toyota Camry was evacuated from the scene and towed with LASEMA’s light tow truck to the Onipanu Police Station, while the truck was also driven to the station.
In a separate incident at about 4:30pm along the Onipanu Bus Rapid Transit corridor inward Fadeyi, LASEMA responders arrived within two minutes of receiving the distress call.
The team found a teenage boy who had been knocked down by a vehicle while attempting to cross the expressway.
The vehicle involved reportedly fled the scene, leaving the victim with serious head and leg injuries and in urgent need of medical attention.
LASEMA personnel provided immediate assistance and evacuated the teenager to the Trauma Centre for further medical treatment.
Oke-Osanyintolu reiterated the state government’s appeal to motorists to avoid reckless driving and overspeeding and comply with traffic regulations.
He also urged pedestrians to use designated pedestrian bridges and approved crossing points rather than attempting to cross busy expressways.
He said the protection of lives and property remained a priority of the Lagos State Government, adding that efforts would continue to strengthen the state’s emergency response system.
