NIMASA To Showcase Deep Blue Project’s Capabilities At AFRIDEX 2026

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is set to showcase Nigeria’s maritime security capabilities through live land and maritime demonstrations at the 2026 Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX), scheduled to hold from October 26 to 29.

The demonstrations will feature the operational capabilities of the Deep Blue Project, Nigeria’s integrated national security and waterways protection initiative, highlighting the country’s investments in advanced security infrastructure, intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordinated responses to maritime threats.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NIMASA’s Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations, Osagie Edward, said the exercise would demonstrate the agency’s capacity to protect Nigeria’s territorial waters, critical maritime assets, coastal infrastructure and strategic shipping routes within the Gulf of Guinea.

According to Edward, the initiative is designed to strengthen maritime security through specialised personnel, modern technology and coordinated operations aimed at addressing threats across the nation’s maritime domain.

The Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, said the agency’s participation in AFRIDEX would provide an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s progress in maritime security through technology, intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration to the international community.

He described the Deep Blue Project as a critical component of Nigeria’s maritime security architecture, noting that it supports efforts to combat piracy, armed robbery at sea and other maritime crimes while protecting trade and economic activities.

Mobereola added that the live demonstrations would enable stakeholders and international participants to assess the operational readiness, tactical proficiency and coordinated response capabilities developed under the initiative.

He stressed that effective maritime security goes beyond the acquisition of modern equipment, requiring well-trained personnel, efficient command structures and sustained cooperation among relevant security agencies.

AFRIDEX 2026 is expected to attract governments, armed forces, maritime authorities, security organisations and international defence technology partners. The exhibition will provide a platform for showcasing innovations, exchanging operational knowledge and strengthening cooperation across the land, maritime, air, cyber and space security sectors.

NIMASA’s participation is also expected to highlight Nigeria’s capacity to conduct integrated security operations and promote regional collaboration in protecting critical national infrastructure.

The agency said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve maritime safety and security, sustain gains recorded in the Gulf of Guinea and create a safer environment for shipping, offshore operations and the development of Nigeria’s Blue Economy.
