Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd. and operator of Nigeria’s first large-scale commercial gold mine, has expanded its Youth Empowerment Transport Scheme with the distribution of nine commercial minibuses to beneficiaries across its host communities in Osun State.

The company said the initiative forms part of the second phase of its 2026 Youth Empowerment Programme, aimed at creating sustainable income opportunities and strengthening local livelihoods.

Under the scheme, three commercial minibuses were presented to beneficiaries in each of the host communities of Iperindo, Odo-Ijesha, and Imogbara to enable them establish commercial transportation businesses.

SROL also extended business support to beneficiaries of previous editions of its Youth Empowerment Programme. In Imogbara, an aluminium fabricator who received equipment under the 2025 programme was provided with a generator to improve productivity and business operations. Similarly, a cobbler from Iperindo who completed beginner and advanced vocational training under the 2023 programme received additional materials and a filing machine to expand his business.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, SROL Mines Manager, Sikiru Haruna, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable community development through investments in skills, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.

He said the Youth Empowerment Programme is designed to equip members of host communities with the resources and opportunities needed to establish viable businesses, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to local economic growth.

One of the beneficiaries of the transport scheme, James Adejugbagbe, described the vehicle as a life-changing opportunity that would provide a reliable source of income for his family and help him build a sustainable business.

According to SROL, the Youth Empowerment Programme is implemented under its Community Development Agreement, which provides a framework for initiatives focused on promoting sustainable livelihoods and socio-economic development across its host communities in Osun State.
