Zamfara Begins 95km Tsafe Road Project To Boost Security, Economy

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction of a 95-kilometre road project in Tsafe Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen security, improve transportation and stimulate economic growth.

The project, flagged off on Sunday, will connect Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji and Yankuzo to Tsafe, with the construction of five bridges also included.

The road project has been divided into two phases, with SKY Construction Company awarded the first 47-kilometre section, while Setraco Construction Company Limited will handle the remaining 48 kilometres.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said the project was particularly important to the predominantly agricultural communities along the route, noting that improved road infrastructure would support economic activities and strengthen security operations.

He explained that the project was prioritised as part of his administration’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the area, while improving the safety and welfare of residents.

According to the governor, the road will facilitate the movement of goods and services and enhance the mobility of security agencies, enabling them to respond more effectively to threats and attacks.

Lawal added that the project formed part of his administration’s broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at reconnecting communities and addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges across the state.

He listed other ongoing road projects, including the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau Road, Zurmi-Rukudawa Road and Mallamawa-Bukkuyum Road, with a spur to Masamar Mudi, as part of efforts to improve connectivity and promote development.

The governor said the Tsafe road project was expected to deliver benefits beyond transportation by encouraging economic activities, improving security and raising the living standards of residents.

He assured the people that his administration would work towards the timely completion of the project, acknowledging the difficult circumstances confronting communities in the area.

Lawal also directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure effective supervision, quality assurance and strict adherence to approved engineering standards throughout the construction process.

He stressed that contractors must deliver quality infrastructure that justifies public expenditure and remains durable over time.

The governor expressed optimism that the completed road would strengthen relationships among communities, improve access to economic opportunities and contribute to the overall growth and development of Zamfara State.
